NY Schools’ ‘Human Rights’ Curriculum Features Van Jones
A new human rights curriculum that was recently introduced to middle schools and high schools all across New York is a disservice to students because it wastes precious instruction time which would be more wisely spent on academic fundamentals.
Last Friday, December 10, over 1,000 New York students took part in the inaugural webcast of the “Speak Truth to Power” curriculum distributed by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights and New York State United Teachers.
The web event originated from a classroom at Chestnut Ridge Middle School, a school with a student population that recently scored below-average on statewide tests, according to the New York Times. It is extremely difficult to see how lessons focusing on corporate “greed,” landmine awareness, Chinese labor camps and abolishing the death penalty will do anything to raise student test scores in math, reading and science.
According to a NYSUT blog, the curriculum “introduces general human rights issues” and “urges students to become personally involved in the protection of human rights.”
New York parents and taxpayers ought to be very concerned that their public schools think this curriculum is an appropriate use of time. Students may end up with an increased awareness of global problems, but if they don’t graduate with basic academic skills, what can they possibly do about such issues?
This is another case of public schools using class time to indoctrinate students with a radical, leftist political agenda. No curriculum that promotes the views of Van Jones should be allowed to pollute the minds of school kids.
New York schools need to focus on the rights of their students to an education that prepares them for life. Teaching social awareness to students who are lacking basic academic skills is a luxury that New York schools, families and taxpayers cannot afford.
This guy is bad news. What brilliant school official granted him access to our vulnerable children?

Our school kids are far behind the global educational curve as it is and to have this commie scum bag indoctrinate them with communist ideology is not a good idea.
It’s a real shame that this scum is even allowed near our children, let alone speak to them. It’s enough that our children suffer from bad teachers and this scum is allowed to waste their time instead of teaching them the things that they need to learn to get along in this world. Send this scum back to the slums where he belongs and leave our children alone.
Human rights lumps us all into one catagory in which to be controled. Interesting that the ratical left invented racism and those that have been disempowered by that continue to support those that have put them in that position in the first place.
Individual rights celebrates the variety of conscious human life and the value each might create according to our individual desires and talents.
But as we know the radical left does not want us to be individuals but wants us to be obiedent bicameral pawns to suit their desires. Without our coersed cooperation they would wither away to nothing. That is why I suggest we just STOP doing business with them starting with the most basic services. Food, clothes, Home maintence, etc. All of a sudden we are all too busy to take care of their needs. It will drive them NUTS.
No the radical left didn’t invent racism. We have had that for thousands of years, way before the first instance, at least that I know, of any enforced communist ideas.
The current leftists promote divisionism – everyone is in some kind of group (sometimes racial) to take from everyone else, usually through constantly increasing government power.
Ben, These disempowerments started more than 3000 years ago but it wasn’t about race, it was religion. More recently- late 1800′s with fabian socialism and then Woodrow Wilson in the early 1900′s. He called for segregation, the practice of eugenics, a war on capitalism and revised our original history. You are right, they seek to divide. That is how they used racism. The radical left has been at work in America for over 100 years. But race was not a concept until then, Of course we all know that there is only one race of conscious human beings.
What other Felon (X-Con) would be allowed to talk to children other than don’t do this if you want to stay out of prison… Ok, enough of that kind of bashing.. Now, onto some very much needed Liberal bashing (at least in this case)..
The Liberals are now not only telling us how to live, but now they are telling us how to live.. What arrogance. What gives those pompous Libtards the right to teach us their failed (and they always have failed) policies of a socialistic view.. Whey on earth would they think they can get communism right, No one else in the history of the earth has gotten it right, including the Chinese, no especially the Chinese, and I love China (for they gave us Martial Arts).
The liberals want all of the control over everyone, so they have to dumb us down now.. Adults should be mortified to see this happening, especially in New York after 9/11.. come on NY, get your mind out of the “gutter” (for lack of much more appropriate phrase).
Liberals should just quit while they are ahead. the people they are taking orders from don’t care about them either.

Why is it no one is tracing the history of the United States educatonal system to the point “progressive” ideology began, up to the present day? One of my dearest friends is a credentialed academic with University doctoral status and is so educated with the progressive thinking she refuses to even DISCUSS facts, proven facts, that are used by conservatives. Permiting the likes of Van Jones to be involved in education, from the president’s inside clique, down to middle schools, is destroying this country. If the American public does not wake up and start LEARNING what IS happening in the government and schools, we are lost.
